Abstract
Right after COVID, there was an attempt to merge AAPG with SPE and when that failed, essentially the same group of members “decided” that it was time to “Re-imagine,” or essentially reshape the structure of AAPG citing too much cost in governance and the need to be more efficient.
The first draft of the new By-Laws came out in January, and several of the changes are non-starters for many members. This presentation will cover the current financial picture of the organization and then go into some detail as to what the By-Law changes mean for the membership and their representation on the new “Board.” It looks just like the SPE structure! So, the thought is, we did not choose to merge with SPE, then why are we trying to “look” like SPE! Many comments and suggestions have been put forth by the Constitution and By-Laws Committee of the House of Delegates, but to date, most have been ignored by the Ad-Hoc Committee.
The bottom line is that we need to fix the financial picture first – which CAN be done.
