Abstract
What is happening with the AAPG now that I’m President?
“A brief description of the recent IMAGE convention in Houston”
Followed by
“Machine Learning field study of the Woodbine in East Texas”
The AAPG had its annual meeting in Houston in August. Results of the meeting and some of the special meetings will be discussed. The future of the AAPG still hangs in the balance between members’ or large companies’ direction. A description of AAPG financials and the continued issues with the Constitution and By-Laws committee of the House of Delegates will be covered. Where is the AAPG headed?
After that fun, Deborah will discuss a Machine Learning project of Double A Wells Field in the Woodbine of Polk County in East Texas. The project involved AI Workbench for Seismic Interpretation software called Paradise from Geophysical Insights. The project shows the methodology a geologist/geophysicist/explorationist uses to bring out the subtle nuances within seismic data to better understand lithofacies, faults, stratigraphy and predict results ahead of the drill bit. Quantification and lowering risk are key aspects of this methodology which was used successfully in the Woodbine.
Please attend the SGS September 17th meeting to learn if Paradise AI software identified the best sand packages (different sands - angular unconformity against the Austin Chalk) and found any stranded reserves still hiding in the field.
Biography
Deborah is a geologist/geophysicist with 49 years of oil and gas exploration experience in Texas, Louisiana Gulf Coast and Mid-Continent areas of the US, and internationally she has worked in Australia, Tunisia, Gulf of Thailand, Turkey, Hungary, Germany and Columbia. She received her degree in Geology from the University of Oklahoma in 1976 and immediately started working for Gulf Oil in their Oklahoma City offices.
She started her own company, Auburn Energy, in 1990 and built her first geophysical workstation using Kingdom software in 1996. She helped SMT/IHS for 18 years in developing and testing the Kingdom Software. She specializes in 2D and 3D interpretation for clients in the US and internationally.
For the past 15 years she has been part of a team to study and bring the power of multi-attribute neural analysis of seismic data to the geoscience public, guided by Dr. Tom Smith, founder of SMT. She has become an expert in the use of Paradise software and has many discoveries for clients using multi-attribute neural analysis.
Deborah has been very active in the geological community. She is past national President of SIPES (Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientists), past President of the Division of Professional Affairs of AAPG (American Association of Petroleum Geologists), Past Treasurer of AAPG and Past President of the Houston Geological Society. She is also Past President of the Gulf Coast Association of Geological Societies and has been on the Advisory Council of AAPG twice. Deborah is also a DPA Certified Petroleum Geologist #4014 and DPA Certified Petroleum Geophysicist #2. She is currently President of the AAPG.
She belongs to AAPG, SIPES, Houston Geological Society, South Texas Geological Society and the Oklahoma City Geological Society (OCGS).
