Biographies

Kevin B. Hill is a consulting geophysicist with a degree in Geology from LSU.  He has been in the oil business for over 40 years, and president of Hill Geophysical Consulting for more than 30 years.

Kevin’s hobby is studying geology around the globe.  He explores how the subsurface influences everyday life through agricultural systems that produce food and wine.

He has shared the fruit of his research with the Shreveport Geological Society in an annual dinner meeting for fifteen years. The first of these presentations was “How Geology Influences Burgundy Wines.”  Kevin has also presented talks on the geology and wine of Oregon, Israel, Paso Robles, Spain, Northern Italy, France, Australia and Texas.

Owner Susan Higgins of Heart & Hands Wine Company of upstate New York will be with us to explain why and how she and her husband Tom Higgins selected the area and land that they purchased to develop a new winery on Cayuga Finger Lake.  Susan will describe the five unique wines she has selected for our event.  The Finger Lakes of upstate New York has many wineries producing a mix of wines from many different grapes.  The Higgins dreamed about farming grapes that would produce luscious wines from mostly Burgundian varietals. See their website for more: https://heartandhandswine.com/

Chef Wesley Davis and the planning group worked out an exciting menu that will begin with a special “heart” salad to accompany their Seneca Lake Dry Reisling. Two unique white wines (2020 Chardonnay and 2023 Polarity (White Pinot Noir) will be paired with Chicken en Croute. 2022 Pinot Noir 2022 Mo Chuisle Estate Reserve Pinot Noir will be served with Pan Seared Salmon and more. A celebratory Champagne from the Hill’s cellar will accompany the Valentine’s Day procrastinators dessert of Almond Croissant Cookie Dipped in Dark Chocolate with Mint and Raspberry Powder Garnish to finish out the meal.
