Biography
Deane Foss is an exploration geologist who worked for Chevron from 1978 to 2000 and has been primarily an independent prospect generator since. Since the early 2000’s he has focused mostly on the Southwest Alabama Smackover trend. He had a B.A. from Williams College and a M.S. from Texas A&M University, both in Geology.
Abstract
The discoveries of Little Cedar Creek (1994) and Brooklyn (2009) Fields launched a new, stratigraphically-focused began in southwest Alabama. This effort became especially active from 2004 to 2014 when it became obvious that LCC-Brooklyn Fields were going to be major accumulations (est. EUR 100 MMBO/BOEG). Dozens of wells were drilled looking for “another shoreline” and except for a minor, non-commercial discovery or two, all failed. Rather than go into why they failed (I don’t really know), I want to talk about some recent stratigraphic trap exploration of a different type I have been involved in recently. And why we have been somewhat successful.
