Where is the Energy Business Headed?

Presented by: Kevin B. Hill

Volunteers from the SGS judged earth science-related projects at the Louisiana Region 1 Science & Engineering Fair on March 7th and awarded cash prizes to the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place winners in each of the three divisions - Elementary, Middle School, & High School.

Some of these students will be at the May meeting with their projects and will be available to discuss their projects.

Many thanks to our volunteer judges: Ralph Richardson, David Williamson, Patty DuBois, Ian Byram, Bezany Branton, & Bobby Raines.

Come support the future of science!

Abstract

After the recent GeoGulf 2025 conference in Nacogdoches, it became evident that the future of “Green Energy transition” (GET) is unrealistic, uneconomic and unmanageable. This less than 20-minute talk will illuminate ideas that were presented at GeoGulf and make predictions for a brighter energy future.  The GET is now with us even in NW LA with the recent news from Swepco about rolling brown outs in our area. Those promised minor disruptions turned to major ones when blackouts occurred a few weekends ago.  Follow-up news articles said it was just a weather issue!  It clearly is a mis-management issue.  Let’s also consider the Iberian Peninsula which after going 100% Green had a wipeout of their grid which blacked out which shut down Spain, Portugal and parts of South France.  The satellite pictures of that night are outstanding.  Who wants this kind of treatment from our energy companies?   Hopefully, we’ll be able to have this SGS meeting on Tuesday, May 20th in the Swepco building which houses our beloved Petroleum Club without having to cancel it due to another blackout.

Biography

Kevin B. Hill is a highly trusted geophysicist thanks to his long record of success integrating geophysical technology with geology.

For more than 30 years, Hill Geophysical Consulting has generated the best structural and rock physics picture of what lies below the surface, specializing in all aspects of oil and gas prospect generation, prospect reviews, solution mining imaging, oil and gas storage, unconventional resource plays, seismic acquisition design, seismic processing, rock physics, AVO processing, AVO analysis, seismic modeling, and seismic hazard analysis. Kevin B. Hill founded his Shreveport-based consulting company in 1987, and has worked on thousands of projects in the US and abroad using the most cutting edge computing technology, including Kingdom, Petra, Hampson-Russell, Rock Solid Attributes, and Global Mapper. HGC is able to interpret seismic data via telecommute, if necessary, or Hill is available to travel with a portable workstation if that is what your project requires.

Kevin B. Hill and his staff recently completed seismic rock property studies of the Hosston, Cotton Valley, Bossier and Haynesville of North Louisiana and East Texas.  The studies involved the full integration of available engineering and well control with 2d and 3D seismic data.  Results showed “sweet spots” in the targeted formations could be brought out of the seismic data and be used to design the drilling programs to enhance the recovery of hydrocarbons.  HGC’s clients have put this seismic analysis to the test and have drilled better, less costly exploitation wells in their acreage.
